Professor F. S. Hunter returned to Dunedin by the express yesterday. Mr James Samson left for Christchurch by the through express yesterday.
Mr J. B. Thomson was a passenger for Wellington by the through express yesterday. Official advice has been received that Squadron Leader R. G. Brickell, of Dunedin, has arrived safely in England after two years internment in Algeria. Messrs J. and .L. McMillan, wellknown contractors, of Palmerston North, who have been paying a visit, to their home town after an absence of 38 years, left on their return to Palmerston North by the through express yesterday. Passengers who left for the north by the airliner yesterday were: Messrs J. Connell, R. Friedlander. and S. George for Christchurch, Messrs Livingston and Stanley for Wellington, Mesdames E. C. Paterson, E. B. Goldie, A. B. Jones, and Miss C. Jones for Auckland. Mr A. E. Smith, of Anderson’s Bay, has received the information that his son, Lance-corporal R. A. Smith, of the Australian military forces, died of blackwater fever in New Guinea on November 25. Lance-corporal Smith was engaged in the Bulolo minefields, New Guinea, when war broke out.
