WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
SOUTH OTAGO FEDERATION
The South Otago Federation of Women’s Institutes held its half-yearly meeting in the Masonic Hall, Balclutha, last week, when all the affiliated institutes were represented. Mrs Cooksley, who presided, welcomed Miss Kane (Dominion president) to the meeting, and Mrs Harris presented her with a floral spray. , Mrs Cooksley congratulated Tahakopa Institute on gaining first place (equal) in the Dominion programme competition (44 entries). Mrs Harris gave an interesting report of the Dominion Council meeting, and later appealed for support for the Children’s Health Camp at Pounawea in January. The president brought the notice of members the Associated Countrywomen of the World's pamphlet on reconstruction. Mrs Landels reported on the meetings of the National Council of Women, for which body Mrs Cooksley asked the support of all. Miss Kane gave an account of what was being done by the military authorities for the welfare of all women in camps throughout New Zealand. After luncheon in the hall, and a short time spent in social intercourse, Miss Kane took charge of the meeting and announced that Mrs Cooksley had been re-elected to the Dominion Council. She then held a very instructive school of procedure. Afternoon tea brought a successful meeting to a close.
