DISABLED SOLDIERS

PLANS FOR REHABILITATION CENTRE IN ANZAC AVENUE Proposals have been submitted to the Rehabilitation Board by the Disabled Servicemen’s Civil Re-establish-ment League with a view to providing for the rehabilitation of men who suffer severe disability through the war. These were detailed by Mr S. B. Smith, who i-epresented the league at a function in the R.S.A. Hall last night, at which members of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. were the guests of the executive of the Returned Services’ Association.

Mr Smith said that the league had been able to secure an option from the Otago Harbour Board over a site in Anzac avenue. It was proposed to erect a series of workshops, and these would be equipped to fulfil the needs of the various forms of activity and industry that would be undertaken. Plans had been prepared and were now in the hands of the Rehabilitation Board, which, if satisfied that the scheme was a good one, would give its approval to the erection of the buildings. The Dunedin Bowling Centre had generously agreed to construct a bowling green on the ground, he added, and a pavilion would be erected. A croquet lawn and a lawn tennis court might also be provided.
