RUGBY FOOTBALL

FINAL MATCHES ON SATURDAY Ah Rugby matches will be played next Saturday, and the s competitions will then be closed. A decision to this effect was reached at a meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Football Union last evening. The president (Mr Ira Grant) explained that three playing Saturdays remained, but, with one or two exceptions, clubs were very hard pressed for players. The University teams were willing to play on Saturday, but. because of their studies, desired that competitions should be completed.' After considerable discussion, it was agreed that next Saturday's matches should be played as arranged, and that the competitions should then be closed. Sevcn-a-side Tournament A suggestion was made by Mr V. G. Cavanagh that the season should conclude with a seven-a-side tournament on September 19. This was approved, and it was decided to conduct competitions in three grades—A (for Senior teams), B (Second and Third Grade), and C (Fourth and Fifth Grade). The closing of entries was fixed for Monday next, and a subcommittee comprising Messrs D. C. Jolly (convener), I. Grant, and E. S. Wilson was appointed to control the tournament. It was decided to advise the Army and Artillery teams that there would be no necessity to play their game, which was previously postponed. Draw for Saturday First Grade.—Air Force v.
