BALCLUTHA Passenger Accommodation.—Owing to the transport of troops on week-end leave passenger space l on the Sunday night special train between Invercargill and Dunedin has become severely taxed by the time the train reaches Balclutha. There is, of course, the usual limited express, which leaves here for Christchurch at 9.15 on Sunday nights: but only passengers with tickets for Christchurch are allowed to travel on that train. It is strongly felt that the regulation forbidding passengers from Balclutha to Dunedin to use this train should be relaxed in war-time. Rugby Football.—Crescent seniors defeated Toko seniors on the Kaitangata ground on Saturday by 28 points to 3 points. Next Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:—Crescent I v. Ciutha I, at Baidu tha, 2.45 p.m.; Ciutha Juniors v. Toko Juniors, at Milton, 2.45 p.m. Golf.—Balclutha men played a Stableford match on Saturday. The best cards handed in were;—A. S. Marshall 18—14— 32, R. Guest 15—14—29, G. Ashcroft 1115—29, ls—29, A. R. Watson 9—18—27, J. G. Richards 8—18—26, C. Egarr 8—17—25. E. Aitken 7—18—25, E. L. Egarr 8—15—23. Personal.—At the Young War Workers’ dance on Saturday night Private Bertram Stevenson, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Cullen Stevenson, was presented with a set of military brushes from the local Patriotic Committee. Mr A. I. Miller acted as chairman in the absence of Mr M. Campbell, and the presentation was made, on behalf of the committee, by the Mayor (Mr J. R. Copland). Private Stevenson went into hospital on Sunday for an operation for appendicitis.
