SWEDEN PREPARES

NAZI MOVE FEARED ARMY ON WAR FOOTING LONDON. May 10. Telephonic communication between Sweden and Germany was interrupted last night, states a Stockholm report. Similar moves in the past have always been a prelude to events of great importance. The report coincides with other messages from Stockholm stating that the Quisling Government in Norway is working up an anti-Swedish campaign. It is feared in Sweden that Herr Hitler may “ intervene ” on the pretext of preserving good relations between Sweden and Germany. The Swedish Army is now reported to be practically on a war footing. More troops are being called up, and extensive manoeuvres are taking place in the northern areas. New mechanised and motorised units have been formed, and important additions have been made to the navy. A SECOND FRONT DANGER REALISED BY GERMANS LONDON, May 10. A Lisbon report says that, according to a member of a party of 36 United States and South American diplomats who arrived from Italy and Greece, the whole of Germany is talking about the danger of a second front in Europe. He added that the Italians no longer cherish illusions about winning the war. The Germans still cling to the hope of winning, but do not know how it will be done.
