PEDESTRIAN FATALITIES

APPEAL FOR EXTRA CARE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 11. The Minister of Transport, Mr R. Semple, to-day commented upon the frequency of pedestrian accidents during recent weeks and the need for special care by pedestrians during the forthcoming winter months. Seven pedestrians were killed by motor vehicles during April, the Minister said. Six of these fatalities occurred after dark, and in most cases the victims were crossing the street when they were struck down. ■ “ Every year,” he continued, “ the winter months have brought a shocking crop of pedestrian accidents. The pedestrian killed is nearly always the one who is careless. I appeal to all to exercise greater care this winter. Remember two cautions: Watch while you walk, and at night wear or carry something white.”
