CLYDE

Patriotic Committee.—Mrs M. E. Annan presided at the monthly meeting of the Patriotic Committee. The secretary intimated that the All Purposes Appeal had, with the inclusion of the bottle drive, reached a total of £216. It was the unanimous opinion that Clyde's quota Of £3OO should not be increased, as the area under the committee's control was a very small one. At the conclusion of the meeting, a presentation was made to Mr and Mrs Cross, two energetic members of the committee, who were leaving the district. Mrs Annan, in making the presentation, expressed regret at the departure of the guests, and Messrs J. J. Davidson and W. K. Genge endorsed the chairwoman's rePersonal.—Mr A. R. Cross, local postmaster for the past two years and a-half, and a returned soldier from the last war, will leave for a northern military camp on Monday. Mr Nell Taylor, who has been postmaster at Naseby for a short time, arrived in Clyde on Friday to take over the position of postmaster. Influenza.—There has been an epidemic of influenza in this district during the past month, very few households escaping. The malady, fortunately, is not of a serious type, although sufferers have had to take to bed for a week or longer. Change of Weather.—After a spell of dry and windy weather, rain fell on Thursday and again on Friday, though not very heavily. More rain is required, both for feed and" cultivation purposes.
