C. Cameron, said: " I think the figures speak for themselves. It will be noted' that some 1223 citizens (or families) have made direct contributions of sums ranging from 2s 6d to £SOO. In fairness to others it must be said that the item of £4243 (proceeds of special efforts), includes many genero.us Individual contributions, but even assuming that a further 1000 families have given directly to these special efforts, it is obvious that the great maiprity of the citizens of this town have not yet given more than an odd shilling on street day. The amount of £4243 represents slightly less than Is a head of the population of Dunedin. It also includes numerous contributions from those who have given under the other headings. My committee is grateful to those who have already given so generously, and urges all who have not yet done so to help to raise Dunedin's quota of £73,500."
