OMAKAU
Omakau Golf Club.— The annual meeting was held on Thursday evening, the president, Mr J. M, Charles, presiding over a good attendance of members. The annual report showed that the club had had a successful season, the purchase of a motor mower having materially helped to improve the greens. There was a credit balance of over £l4. The chairman expressed thanks to the secretary (Mr H. Ingram), the executive, and the L.G.U. for their invaluable assistance during the year. The following officers were elected:—President, Mr J. M. Charles; vice-presidents, Messrs C. Deaker and C. Wallington; club captain, Mr J. Truesdale; Executive Committee, the foregoing officers and the secretary, with the addition of Mr W. B. Scoular and the captain and Secretary of the L.G.U. Mr H. Ingram was reappointed
secretary, and Mr H. W. Oaten auditor. Delegates to the sub-union are the club captain and Mr C. Wallington. Handicap, Match and Social Committees were also appointed. In order to allow of preliminary work to be undertaken at the links, the opening day was fixed for May 2. Several new members were enrolled. PllinUet Society.—With the object of raising the district's quota for the Plunket Societv. the local branches of the Women's Division and the Women's Institute held a combined bring-and-buy sal - - in the Omakau Hall on Saturday, with the result that the required amount was raised. Personal. —Trooper W. Maclean, late manager of the Ida Valley Station, who is now serving in the armed forces, was a visitor to Poolburn during the weekend.—Private J. D. Robertson, formerly of the staff of the Omakau School, was in Omakau on furlough during the week. Home Guard. Non - commissioned officers of the Omakau Company of the Home Guard held a general instructional class on Friday evening. The company, in conjunction with the Poolburn Platoon, took part in a mock attack en Black's Hill on Saturday afternoon. Members also carried out shooting practice. The Weather.—Cold conditions, with strong winds, were experienced during the past week, and several sharp frosts were recorded. On Friday a heavy fall of snow coated the ranges, and conditions are still unsettled.
