PORT MORESBY BOMBED ENEMY AIRCRAFT (Rec. 2 a.m.) CANBERRA, Feb. 24. The Minister for Air, Mr A. S. Drakeford, announced to-night that Port Moresby, New Guinea, was bombed this morning by enemy aircraft. A medium force of bombers, accompanied by fighters, took part, flying over the area in two waves. Buildings were hit, but no damage of importance was done. RAIDS ON JAVA (Rec. 2 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 24. A Batavia communique states that the enemy yesterday carried out raids on a town and'airfields in Java. FIGHTING IN BURMA SITTANG RIVER FRONT (Rec. 2 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 24. Despatches from Burma state that enemy reinforcements from Malaya are now taking part in the fighting. The Allied troops are now defending the line of the Sittang River. SUNK IN THE CARIBBEAN AMERICAN CARGO VESSEL WASHINGTON, (Rec. 1.30 a.m.) Feb. 24. The Navy Department announced that a 7000-ton United States cargo ship was torpedoed and sank in the Caribbean Sea, 60 miles off the Cuban coast.
