COOKS FOR THE ARMY
There appears to be a great dearth of recruits from the Otago military area for the job of cooking for the army. Under the latest mobilisation plan, and in view of the establishment of a new battalion which will go into camp in Southland, a draft of 30 cooks has to be filled from the Otago area alone. In spite of the authorities' urgent appeal for recruits, fewer than half a dozen have so far put down their names and been interviewed. Qualified army cooks receive 2s 6d a day more than ordinary army pay. -
