WOMEN FOR ARMY

PROBABLE LIST OF DUTIES (F.0.P.R.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 6. "The duties of the women who are to be selected for the army will be much the same as those carried out by members of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force," said the Minister of Defence; Mr Jones, in an interview tonight. "The duties for which the women are likely to be required include those of typists, clerical workers, cooks, waitresses, kitchen hands, clerks, canteen workers and mess orderlies. Cooks, waitresses and kitchen maids have been employed for some time at the New Zealand Staff College and in the camp hospitals." It was emphasised by Mr Jones that the army would draw its requirements through the Women's War Service Auxiliary, and that applications made direct to the army would not be considered. ■ ■■■'. The Minister said, in reply to a question, that it was unlikely that, women would be required for the driving of army vehicles.
