STOLEN BICYCLE

FOUND A YEAR LATER

A bicycle recovered almost a year after it was stolen from the Dunedin Railway Station was the subject of a charge of theft admitted by Cyril Taylor, a plumber, married, aged 27, in the Police Court yesterday, before Mr H. W. Bundle. S.M. He was arrested only half an hour before the court sitting on a charge of stealing a bicycle owned by David Ritchie, and valued at £3. on February 10, 1941. Detective Sergeant J. Gibson said that the complainant was a railway employee, who reported the theft of his bicycle nearly a year ago. While examining bicycles at North Dunedin on Wednesday, Constable Evans discovered the stolen machine, which was kept under observation and the accused was seen to remove it and attempt to ride away. “ The accused offered no, excuse except that his own bicycle was stolen from the railway station at Port Chalmers, and he just took the first bicycle he saw on returning to Dunedin,’ Detective Gibson added. “ The accused, who is still working at Port Chalmers, has no previous convictions.” The accused was remanded in custody until to-day, when the probation officer will submit a report.
