PEOPLE’S ARMY
PROPOSAL REJECTED IN AUSTRALIA CANBERRA, Feb. 5. The Government has rejected the proposal to form a people’s army in The Minister for the Army, Mr F. M. Forde, said there was no justification for private armed forces in Australia. If armies not under Government control were established the result would be chaotic. in the circumstances, the Government would not allow them. He believed a volunteer defence corps would) provide the right opening for many people who were not able to fit into the fighting arms or the A.R.P. organisations but who were desirous of rendering some real service.
