ATTACK ON CONVOY

TWO ENEMY BOMBERS SHOT DOWN (Rec. 7 p.m.) RUGBY. Feb. 4. An Admiralty communique states that two Ju-88 dive-bombers were shot down into • the sea by gunfire. One of the aircraft attempted to attack a convoy. It was damaged by tracers and transferred its attack tq another ship, which put up a heavy barrage. The Ju-88 was seen to swerve and its bombs fell harmlessly into the sea. A few moments later the aircraft crashed in the middle of the convoy. No casualties or damage were suffered by our ships or by the escort. The other Ju-88 was shot down by the minesweeper Britomart. The aircraft attacked the minsweeper from a low level, but was hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed in the sea in flames. One rating was killed and one wounded. The ship suffered superficial damage.
