WINDING-UP GALLOPS IN RAIN (Special) CHRISTCHURCH. Feb. 5. Rain set in last night, and the work this morning was done during heavy showers. The conditions overhead improved after breakfast, but the ground became a little heavier. Lunaria and Mauretania beat Hughsotis, Rhodlim and Maggiore in Imin 17 3-ssec; Mauretania finished well. Nightglass took Imin 18sec, and Benevolent Imin 19 3-ssec, while Hurry Girl and Desert Love beat Dusk in Imin 20sec.

Cross Question, from a slow start, did the best five furlongs. Imin 3sec, Retriever and Miss Saone took Imin 3 4-ssec. Salutation and Not Out went easily in Imin 4 3-ssec.

Dinah Dhu sprinted half a mile in 50sec, Junior taking 50 2-ssec. Lord Advovate (finishing fast) and King Herod beat Warrigal in 50 2-ssec, while Little Secret and Stormy Petrel beat Alert in 51sec. Wedding Ring did 50 4-ssec alone. Up the back Straight Bat was too good for Court Dress in 49 3-ssec, while Calypso beat Red Ace In 51sec. Hearth and True Mate were among those who did easy tasks.
