By Sentinel FIXTURES February 7.—Canterbury J.C. February 7.—Winton J.C. February 7. —Matamata J.C. February 7, 14.—Egmont R.C. Night Pal.—Night Pal should be included in the list of acceptors for the Winton Cup. Dime din Cup.—Nominations for the Dunedin Cup meeting are due on Tuesday, February 10. Dual Engagements.—Winning Flight, Straight Bat and Sly Puss are engaged in both the Middle Park Plate and Lyttelton Plate to-morrow. Duke of Gloucester Cup.—The Duke of Gloucester Cup will be run at Riccarton during the 1942-43 season. Fast Work.—Some horses would very probably shape much better in a race if they did less fast work on the track. Many horses completely fail to repeat their track form in a race. Spanish Lad.—The Balboa gelding Spanish Lad is rated at 211 b better than the next best in the Winton Cup and Is in a class on his own on recent form. Anglo-Irish ran Southern Sail to a neck In the Wyndham Cup, run in 2min ssec, and may be regarded as the next best. Additions.—The Ellerslie trainer R. S. Bagby received five yearlings from the national sales at Trentham. They were a colt by Solicitor-General from Lucinda, a colt by Nightmarch from Entreaty, a colt by St. Boswells from Hilton Gorse. a colt by Posterity from Impetuous and a filly by Solicitor-General from Princess Rawene. Lord Advocate. —In running half a mile on the grass at Riccarton in 48 l-ssec the chestnut colt Lord Advocate appears to have inherited the family gift of galloping. His dam, Sweet Beauty, was got by Greyspear—Sweet Smile by San Francisco—Winning Way and also produced three good gallopers in Cottingham, Rebel Star and Treasurer. Lunaria.—ln his last start Muffler won the Hororata Hack Handicap with 8.2 in 2min 8 l-ssec and beat Lunaria 7.12 by half a length. At Wellington Lunaria shaped well and in the Halswell Handicap at the C.J.C. meeting meets Muffler on 91b better terms than at Hororata. Muffler may get an allowance, but Lunaria is an improving sort. Sir Gundi.—The Salmagundi colt, Sir’ Gundl, who is engaged in the Halswell Handicap on Saturday, has been responsible for some good work at Riccarton. He has won twice this season and in his last start gave Irate 201 b and ran her to a neck in the Stonyhurst Handicap, won in Imirt 40 I-ssec. Lyttelton Plate.—The field for the Lyttelton Plate includes Palpitate, a colt by Man’s Pal—Peggy’s Party by Tea Tray; Junior, a colt by Paper Money—Fairwood, and so a brother to Tissue, and Lord Advocate, a colt by Solicitor-General—Sweet Beauty, the dam of Cottingham, Rebel Star and Treasurer.

D.J.C. Committee.—The monthly committee meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club held yesterday was attended by Messrs A. C. Hanlon, L. J. Potter, A. P Greenfield, D. M. Reid, W. Garrett, C. N. Draper, Arthur Barnett, A. N. Smith, F. Tyson, and B. S. Irwin. Arrangements in connection with the autumn meeting to be' held on Februray 28 were completed. The following Judicial Committee was appointed for the meeting:—Messrs Hanlon, Barnett, Draper, Potter and Smith. Appeal for Binoculars.—At the meeting of the D.J.C. committee a letter was received from the Minister of Defence. Mr F. Jones, making a general appeal for binoculars for use in the armed forces, and it was decided to insert a notice in the race-book asking sportsmen to help. Wlngatul Representatives.—Wingatui is represented in the Winton Trial Stakes by Latest Song, Sir Saladin and Light Cavalry. Latest Song is a four-year-old filly by Song Bird—Paxby, All Red — Soberside, by Obllgado from Broadside, a sister to the Melborne Cup winner, Arsenal. Sir Saladin is a chestnut gelding by Salmagundi—Cetchella, by Cetigne— Cheeky Lass, by Flippant. Light Cavalry was got by Irish Lancer—Enwood, and has displayed a good turn of speed in his races. At his best ,he should be in the money.

The Business Side.—Since the yearling sales were established at Trentham in 1927, 16 sales have been held and 1616 yearlings have been sold for a total of 333,658gn5. The figures show what a large industry racing is. These figures do not show anything like the full amount of business transacted in bloodstock. Anchorage.—The field engaged in the Middle Park Plate includes Anchorage, a bay two-year-old gelding by winning Hit from Fast Passage, the dam of Mauretania. Anchorage is a maiden two-year-old, and should have 7.2 and not 8.4 as appeared in the published list of acceptances. He is one of the team trained by Messrs Cutts brothers for the Clifford estate. ♦
