February 7, 14.—Egmont R.C, Value.—The Midsummer Handicap is worth £2BO to the winner and the Craven Plate £2lO. Symbol.—The Gascony filly Symbol is engaged twice at Winton, and should shape well in her selected race. Favourites.—The favourites for the Midsummer Handicap are Wild Fox and Salutation, and Not Out for the Craven Plate. A Division. —It will require six to drop out of the Trial Stakes to be run at Winton in order to avoid a division. Valantua.—An old friend in Valantua is engaged at the midsummer meeting. He has scored a second and a third in five starts this season.

Post Handicap.—A division will probably be necessary in the Post Handicap, as it will require six to drop out to make the.safety number.

Salutation.—Apparently Salutation is expected to start in the Midsummer Handicap, as she is one of the ruling favourites for the race.

Doria.—The Iliad mare Doria, who is engaged in the Craven Plate, has not raced since finishing fourth in the Templeton Handicap last season. Her last win was in the James Hazlett Gold Cup. > Objection.—The Waimate Racing Club has lodged an objection against the Gore Racing Club holding, a meeting on March 28. The Waimate Club was allotted the date by the Dates Committee, but was apparently expected to drop out. Jolly Time.—Amongst those galloping well at Riccarton is Jolly Time, by Paper Money—Mudlark, who won her first two races this season. Her latest performances have been a third to Rawhamai and Leighnor at Oamaru and a third to Bali and Maggiore at Waikouaiti. Bali.—The speedy gelding Bali is nicely treated in the Post Handicap. He ha? won twice in four starts, and in his last win beat Maggiore and Jolly Time over five furlongs at Waikouaiti. Over seven furlongs he meets Jolly Time on 31b worse terms.

Calypso.—The Iliad filly Calypso, who is engaged in the Post Handicap, showed promising form when she won a double at the Geraldine meeting. Her next placed performance was a second.to Force when giving him 181 b at the Banks Peninsula November meeting. They meet at- even terms in the Post Handicap. Gold Flight.—Amongst those engaged at Winton is Gold Flight, who has not raced since the Grand National meeting, when she ran unplaced in the Paparua Handicap. Last season she won twice in 27 starts. Her wins were at Timaru with 7.2 J in lmin.ll 2-ssec. and at the Waimate Hunt meeting with 8,3 j in lmin 31sec. Well Treated.—Not Out is a clear-cut favourite for the Craven Plate, In which he has 71b more than he carried in the Stewards' Handicap. Leighnor, who finished third four lengths away, is on 51b worse terms, and Hearth on 61b and Circular Note on 131 b worse terms. Not Out is meeting Hearth on 81b better terms than when they dead-heated behind Wild Fox in the Jockey Club Handicap. He was fourth with 8.3 in the Members' Handicap, and in his last start Not Out carried 8.3 and finished fourth behind Route March and the dead-heaters. Sir Beau and Night Eruption," in' the Metropolitan Handicap, when Circular Note. 7,10, was unplaced. On his best form Not .Out is well treated in the Craven Plate.

A Demonstration.—According to the Auckland Herald, the f demonstration against the judge's placlngs in the Suburban Handicap at the Auckland Racing Club's midsummer meeting on Saturday, when Tea Drop was placed first, Bronzo second and Golden Bonnet third, was the noisiest and most prolonged that has occurred at Ellerslie for years. It was the opinion of people on various parts of the course that Bronzo had beaten Tea Drop, and they did not hesitate to dissent. It appeared from the press stand as if Bronzo had won, and his. rider, L. J. Ellis, also thought he had.
