THE ALL-PURPOSES APPEAL

TO THE EDITOR , Sir,—Along with "Digger," I agree that the Mayor's reply to "John Bill's". letter dealing with patriotic matters was not only feeble in itself, but was not a reply in any true sense. In your issue of this morning there is an announcement that Mr Allen, Mayor of Dunedin, had appointed two Dunedin gentlemen for the new St., Kilda sub-zone of the Patriotic Council, one to be its chairman and the other deputy chairman. Folk in St. Kilda are asking questions and would like to know something more about this sub-zone and the appointees. When was this meeting of the sub-committee called, how and where? Apparently a committee has been formed, for it decided to ask the Y.M.C.A. and St. John Ambulance. Association to assist and appoint members to the committee. Who comprise the committee? A reply by Mr Allen would be welcomed.— l am, etc., ; . Dicky Sam.

February 3. - '- [The announcement concerning the appointment of the chairman and deputy chairman of the St. Kilda subzone committee was not in the terms quoted by the writer of the above letter. The sub-zone committee was appointed at a meeting of the Otago Patriotic Council, and it itself appointed its chairman and deputy chairman.—Ed.. O.D.T.]
