THE MOBILISATION OF MARRIED MEN

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —Many of the married men without children recently gazetted for military service have now been medically examined, and are anxiously awaiting some indication as to when mobilisation is likely to take place. Recently it was announced that it would be six weeks before all the men were medically examined. Does this mean that a start with mobilisation wiil be delayed until after this, or is it intended to mobilise the men in alphabetical order? Some of the men affected have heavy business responsibilities, and it is wondered if the military authorities could not make some statement as to either the approximate date on which mobilisation* will take place, or the minimum notice of mobilisation which it is anticipated it will be pqssible to give recruits. If this were done it would enable men much more easily to make the necessary business and household arrangements. It will be readily understood that, if a man were to go ahead and make arrangements on the basis that he might be called up in a fortnight's time and then was not called up for, say, six weeks, a considerable amount of unnecessary expense and inconvenience might be incurred. —I am, etc., Uncertainty. Dunedin, February 3. [lt has been announced by the Army Department that the men called in the last ballot will be mobilised on or about February 16. .We are informed that all the men concerned will receive at least a week's notice of mobilisation—Ed., O.D.T.]
