SUPPLY OF STOCKINGS ENSURING FAIR DISTRIBUTION (Special) AUCKLAND, Feb. 4. The possibility that a coupon system may be introduced in connection with the sale of silk stockings is mentioned in a letter forwarded to the Dominion Federation of New Zealand Women's Institutes, by the secretary to the Department of Industries and Commerce. The representations made to the Minister in connection with a proposal to ration stockings were prompted by-a remit forwarded by the ' Tauranga Federation of . Women's Institutes toward the end of last year through the federation's headquarters. " Following, representations v from other Similar bodies and from individual women; the Government lias made a complete investigation of the supply position and the present methods of distribution," stated the letter. - "As regards the former, you will now be aware that the importation of silk hosiery is again to be permitted to the. extent that at least obtained in 1940. This in itself should afford some relief. As regards distribution, however, it is known that this is proving unequal so that increased importation alone will not remedy the position. The question of rationing is therefore receiving consideration with the possibility of utilising coupons so that of whatever supply can be made available, each woman will be assured of her fair share.".
