Emergency Precautions. —The Mayor, Mr A McKella'r, presided over a well-at-tended meeting of citizens held for the purpose of putting the E.P.S. scheme on a workable basis in Alexandra. Constable Sorrell explained various points of the Emergency Precautions Regulations The following controllers were appointed:—Law and order. Constable C. B. Sorrell; communications, Mr R. G. Simpson; fire, Mr B. S. Carline; finance and records, Mr A. C. Kendrick; lighting Mr A. E. Ellis; medical, Dr W. D. Brown; supply, Mr W. Hesson; transport, Mr R. J. Cow'ie; works, Mr H. G. Wall. Bowling.—To-morrow four rinks from the men's club and two from the ladies' will pay a visit to Omakau for a friendly match. On February 7 the club will hold a tournament for patriotic purposes. Forty players and 40 non-players will participate. Home Guard.—This week the local Home Guard members were given training with the tommy gun and the throwing of hand grenades. Each Guardsman was also supplied with a pair of army boots. Personal.—Mr and Mrs J. D. Watt and family are visiting Queenstown.—Mrs F. R. Whitelock and daughter are visiting Timaru.—Mr and Mrs H. D. Saunders, Dunedin, are visiting Alexandra.
