TWO SCHOOLBOYS INJURED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 29. Severe lacerated wounds to the head and face were suffered by two schoolboys when the cycle they were riding collided with a U'amcar about 2 p.m. to-day in Kent terrace. They were Roy Simmons, aged 11, and Raymond Rowell, aged 15. The condition of both was to-night reported to be serious. MAORI BOY KILLED (P.A.) NAPIER, Jan. 29. A Maori boy, Nathaniel Ivan Ryder, aged three, was killed and his sisters Monica, aged four, and Mary, aged two, were injured when they were thrown under a lorry while it was careering backward downhill this morning. They were members of a family of Maoris who were moving into a house in Napier. They were using a Chinaman's lorry. The vehicle began to move downhill after being parked and after travelling 50 yards hit a culvert, throwing those riding on the decking into the roadway. The vehicle passed over the boy, inflicting fatal head injuries, and struck the two girls, causing minor injuries. A FARMERS DEATH (P.A.) DANNEVIRKE, Jan. 29. A verdict of suicide while mentally depressed was returned at the inquest into the death of Lloyd Robert Hesketh. a farmer, aged 39, single, of Mangatoro, who was found dead on his farm with a gunshot wound in the head. ~ . ~ The evidence showed that the deceased suffered from fits of depression, and since he had been called for military service five months ago he had worried and had been subnormal. He has no relatives in the Dominion. MISHAP TO MILK WAGON The driver of a motor milk wagon suffered crushed ribs and shock when the vehicle ran down a steep bank from Queen's drive on to the Littlebourne recreation ground at the back of the Otago Boys' High School yesterday morning. An employee of the Taieri and Peninsula Milk Supply Company, Ltd., the driver, William Cowie, aged 18, of 555 Cumberland street. North Dunedin, was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital at 10.30 a.m. His condition is not serious. A boy who was thrown out of the vehicle before it reached the foot of the bank escaped with bruises.
