SCHEELUITE MINING
<j» THE GLENORCHY FIELD APPEAL FOR~ WORKERS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 29. An appeal to miners and truckers throughout the Dominion who are willing to go to Glenorchy to take part in scheelite mining to send in their names and addresses to the Under-secretary of Mines, Wellington, was made to-day by the Minister of Mines, Mr P. C. Webb, who stressed the urgent necessity for an accelerated production of tungsten ores in Allied countries in view of the international situation.
Mr Webb stated that in this country the chief hope lay in the Glenorchy field, and the Government would now take a hand in the production of this vital strategic mineral there. Some labour would be required by the State and some by pri-vately-owned mines. The Minister said his department gave this work No. 1 priority rating, and added that the Government would maintain its policy of assisting private enterprise engaged in scheelite mining.
