RICCARTON NOTES

TRACKS FAST (Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 29. The inside of the trial grass track and the plough provided fast going this morning. There was not a great deal of fast work, as most of the horses which were at Trentham will remain on the easy list for a few daMS. Other horses, which have not raced lately, were allowed to stride along in useful work. Palfrey and Sir Gundi went well in a spin over seven furlongs, while Stabilise had Doria as a mate for six furlongs. Doria continues to cause T. H. Gillett. some worry and her prospects are uncertain.

Calypso showed great dash in a sprint over three furlongs and she will be ready to show form again soon. St. Cloud, Muffler, Irate and Court Dress were among the other horses who moved in good style in their work. D. Cotton galloped Little Secret, who moved freely, but he was very lame when he pulled up. The trouble appears to be In a shoulder and a long spell may be

necessary. He is a three-year-old by Man's Pal from Mother Hubbard, and he showed promise of making a useful performer. Mr H. D. Greenwood's four-year-old, Kinsman, by Beau Pere from Amante, was not 1 brought back from Trentham. He was sold for 190 guineas, and it is understood he has gone into the stable of J. J. Waller. He is a big fellow, who has not had much racing, but he should do well for his new owner, as he is a good galloper. Grey Night, who had to miss his engagements at Trentham because of lameness, has made a good recovery. A splint was developing, but he is now moving soundly again. Globe Trotter, who has been spelling since he came here over a month ago, has been taken in hand again by C. G. Humphries. He will be hacked for a while and then will be started in strong work. It is hoped to have him ready to race at Easter.
