SEVERE EARTHQUAKE
ARAFURA SEA DISTURBANCE (Rec, 0.10 a.m.) SYDNEY. Jan. 27. A very severe earthquake in the Arafura Sea, south of Dutch New Guinea, was recorded early this morning by the Riverview Observatory, Sydney. The maximum sweep of the recording pen was more than eight inches.
