BALCLUTHA Railway Housing.—The Railways Department has now taken steps to complete the purchase from Mr James Gold of four quarter-acre sections in Crown street, near the public baths, for the purpose of erecting houses for railway employees. The sections are in one block and the ground is level. It' is estimated that there is room for eight cottages, with ample space for a garden for each. River Trust. —In the absence of the chairman (Mr P. Keller). Mr J. G. Weir presided at a meeting of the Clutha River Trust on Monday. The treasurer reported that the receipts for the month were £1356 Us 2d, and the expenditure £955 7s 9d, leaving a balance of £4Ol 3s sd. . Outstanding rates were £4125 5s 2d, and freights £4O 11s 9d. A decision on the question of the removal of a gravel plant by the Kaitangata Borough Council to a better site on the river was left to the chairman and engineer. The secretary and engineer were left to reply to a complaint from Mr William Telford in regard to defective drainage of the Waitepeka stream. The engineer in his report stated that in all three districts the growth of weeds in the drains was very bad, and because of labour shortage" he had called for tenders for cleaning the drains. Various flood banks on Inch clutha had been strengthened and locks placed in position.
