ART UNION FUNDS
ALLOCATION FROM SURPLUS DISTRIBUTION OF £10,435 (PA.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 16. Grants amounting to £ 10,435 from funds of the £SOOO alluvial gola art unions were allocated to-day as a Christmas gift to a number >of institutions carrying out charitable and philanthropic work in the Dominion. The largest grants go to the New Zealand Cripplsd Children Society and the commandery in New Zealand of the Order fit St. John, each of which bodies receives £750. Other grants rfinge from £250 to £25. Tne Minister of Internal Affairs. Mr W. E. Parry,, upon whose recommendation the grants were made by the Government, stated that the continued Dominion-wide subscriptions by the public to the patriotic funds had lessened the surplus of the art union funds after the usual £SOOO from the profits of each of the national art unions had been paid over to the mayoral distress funds. Consequently, and in order that the surplus funds could be spread over the same number of institutions, all of which were doing a fine community service, some of the grants now made were a little less than the grants made last year.
