JOHN McGLASHAN COLLEGE
, John McGlashan College was founded 22 years ago by the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. Each boy entering the college will, it is believed, find scope for the development of his particular talents, and will do this at-the same time as his formal education fits him for entrance to professional, commercial, dr farming life. ' . The ultimate purpose of the many voluntary organisations and other activitiescadet corps, Scout troop, pipe band, prganised and voluntary, games, gymnastics, physical drill, and is the development of character, the results of which may be measured by the success of old boys of the school. Not only in their occupations and academic records have old boys projved themselves, but also in the esteem in,which they are held in various sections of the community, religious, social, and athletic. They have been especially successful at the Otago Medical School and in scientific pursuits, and ex-pupils have established themselves in other parts of the Empire as well as in New Zealand. A large number of old boys are at', present serving overseas with the various fighting forces, and several have made the supreme sacrifice, while others have won distinction. Examination, results and University successes prove the soundness of classroom itraining. but every boy, it is hoped, benefits by the development of personal independence and responsibility, and is encouraged to cultivate his physical and cultural powers. Religious education is given by the school chaplain and merribers of the staff, and Scripture is throughout the school a regular subject.
