■I ' ■ , The newspaper in war-time, as pointed out by Colonel Jeffery, is a vital and essential industry, in which staffs should be retained so that the newspapers may fill an important role in steadying and maintaining the morale of the public and in disseminating authentic news and keeping the people informed as to what is required of them by the War Council. In the effort to fulfil this role the Otago Daily Times, in co-operation with the transport authorities, is endeavouring to maintain its present early distribution in all centres. Should this not be found possibly subscribers ip areas that cannot be covered are asked to K fi t in touch promptly with the nearest agent to arrange for supply.
