ALLEGED ESPIONAGE
GERMAN ARRESTED IN DUBLIN LONDON, Dec. 4. The police in Dublin last night arrested a German who is believed to have dropped by parachute on Eire 18 months ago. The arrest is the sequel to a case heard in Dublin in June, 1940. when Stephen Held, of Dublin, was sentenced to five years for aiding an unknown man to secure information likely to be prejudicial to the safety of the State. The police then said they were looking for a man named Brandt. The police believe that the man now arrested is Herman Goertz, who was sentenced at Maidstone in 1936 to four years for espionage, and who was deported to Germany in February, 1939, before completing his sentence. Brandt was the alias used by Goertz.
