TOWN HALL DANCE Although only the main hall was in use on Saturday night for the weekly Town Hall dance, there was no decrease in the attendance of dancers and spectators. A well varied programme of modern and old-time dances was enjoyed, and the impersonations and vocal numbers of the radio entertainer "Redhead" were again very well received. This was his farewell appearance. The music was supplied by the Georgians' Strict Tempo Band. "Good entries were received for the Otago Junior Dancing Championship, which will be held next Saturday. Chinese women who have been supplying their' fighting men with blankets laboriously made on spinning wheels of medieval pattern are to have' up-to-date machinery from Britain. The new looms will be based on a design not used since the eighteenth century, and on a smaller scale than used then, to allow them to be worked bv peasant labour and moved about the countryside when a Japanese advance is imminent. Sent out bv the Anglo-Chinese Development Society, London, the machinery will be used by the Chinese Industrial Co-operatives, an organisation which is one of China's strongest defences against Japanese aggression.
