THE "MESSIAH"
The 200th anniversary of the first performance of Handel's " Messiah" occurs early in the new year, and this occasion will be celebrated bv the Dunedin Choral Society in its annual performance on December 3 next. Members of local church choirs have been invited to take part, and a wellbalanced choir of some 200 voices has been rehearsing for some weeks past. Dr V. E. Galwav will be the guest conductor for the concert, and under his guidance this massed choir will be heard to good effect in the majestic choruses of this greatest of ail oratorios. The soloists for the evening will be Mrs Ivy Harman (soprano), Miss Mary Pratt (contralto), Mr Les Dalley (tenor), and Mr Russell Laurcnson (bass). These well-known singers need no introduction to Dunedin audiences, especially in regard to oratorio work, and their appearance in the " Messiah " will be a great attraction. The 4YA Orchestra will accompany the work, assisted by Dr Vernon Griffiths at the organ. .
