SOCIAL CREDIT AND THE OLD

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —It is difficult to reconcile " Truth's " letter in the Daily Times of November 22 with his letter in the issue of November 17. That of November 22 admits, if not in words, certainly by implication, that the savings of the old will be fruitless under social credit; while I was told on November 17,' in the opening paragraph, that I must have been mistaken in thinking anything of the kind. I am well aware that the quotation from "Victory Without Debt" did not deal with the savings of the old. But that is. precisely the omission with which I want Social Credit writers to deal. I want them to descend from generalities to deal with particular issues. Proposals such as those quoted from "Victory Without Debt" will work harm to the old. Do Social Crediters propose to repair that harm adequately? The conclusion seems to be that Social Credit will be against the interests of the ,thrifty who themselves wish to provide' for their old age. Such people are hardly likely to be consoled with the view in the distance of the Co-operative Commonwealth and the national dividend. Such terms smack too. much of Socialism. They suspect already that Social Credit, when its implications are realised—as they do not appear to be, even by leaders — would entail such an amount of regimentation of the people as to be scarcely distinguishable from Socialism.—l am, etc., Sexagenarian.
