Maddox, has arrived in Canada to take up the post of Squadron Leader at one -of the: new Air Force Stations.. -- ,e- > Following its meeting yesterday, the Westland County Council entertained the clerk, Mr D. J. Evans, who has completed 50 years of service as executive officer for the county. There were many references to his valuable work and suitable presentations were made. Notice of his transfer to take charge of the American consulate at Bradford, England, has been received by Mr J. G. Groenihger, who has been American consul in Auckland for the past four and a-half years. Mr Groeninger will be succeeded by Mr H. A. Boucher, ■who .has been stationed for a time ,at Geneva., and who is at present -in Washington, ' A tribute to the outstanding service given by Mr G. W. Reid to the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association was •aid at the annual meeting of the association last night. Mr Reid has retired from the secretaryship after 24 years in that office, and the meeting elected him to the position of treasurer. Mr J. Sutherland. Ross and Mr Richard Hudson, both former presidents, spoke in high, praise of Mr Reid’s work ever since the'foundation of the association, and Mr Hudson made' a presentation to him of a canteen of cutlery, a pair of binoculars, and a wristlet watch.
