A VALUABLE ASSET
MANUFACTURERS’ ASSOCIATION SCOPE FOR PROGRESS An attendance of nearly 200 members and guests, including the May6r (Mr A. H. Allen) and many representatives of business interests, and an address by Mr J. G. Coates, a member of the Wat Cabinet, made the annual meeting last night of the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association one of the most successful for some years. Mr J. C. H. Somerville, who was re-elected president. was in the chair, and the main interest of the evening was in his presidential address, in the address by Mr Coates, who was introduced by Mr Somerville as “ a man who has done a great job in America, and is still doing it on the War Cabinet,” and a recognition of the fine service given to the association since its foundation by Mr G. W. Reid, who has retired this year from the office of secretary. The adoption of the annual report and balance sheet was moved by Mr Somerville, seconded by Mr G. W. Lane (vice-president), and carried. Both Mr Somerville and Mr Lane paid tribute to the good work that had been done by officials of the association in its early history, and spoke of yesterday, when a new set of offices was opened officially, as a “ red-letter day in its progress.” The assipciation’s balance sheet was not a brilliant one, but members had rallied to the current appeal for assistance, and. the position now was most encouraging. There was every indication that the future of the association would be an even more valuable asset to the community than it had been in the past. Office-bearers Office-bearers were elected as follows: —President. Mr J. C. H. Somerville; vice-presidents. Mr G. W. Lane and Mr D. H. Blackie; treasurer. Mr G. W. Reid: auditor, Mr. W. G. Kindley; now members of committee, Mj 1 E. H. Brook and Mr M. G. Black.
