OPENING OF CONFERENCE At the opening function ol the annual conference of the Methodist Women’s Missionary Union of New Zealand, held In the Central' Mission Hall, the Rev L. B. Neale (chairman of the Otago District) presided and extended a welcome to the president of the New Zealand Methodist Church, the Rev W A Burley and to the delegates. On the platform were Mrs Taylor (president of the M.W.M.U ), Mrs Flavall (secretary), Mrs Goldsmith (treasurer) bf Feilding Miss Rishworth (Auckland), a past-president, and Mrs Prout, president of the Dunedin Auxiliary. Solos were contributed by Mrs M. Harman, Miss Phyllis West, and Mr R. Wentworth. The Central Mission Bible Class Choir also gave items. The Rev B. Metson extended a , welcome on behalf of Trinity Church, where the conference is to be held, and Mrs Prout expressed greetings on behalf of the Dunedin Auxiliary Special messages were read from Mrs Brown, a life member of the M.W.M.U., the Rev W; A, Scrlven, and the Home Mission Board.

Mrs Taylor stressed the need to " get together ” •in these days of tremendous $ possibilities. . • Mr Burley also addressed the meeting, giving an account of the centenary of Methodism at Auckland and Wellington, and describing the work and lives,of the wives of the missionaries, and their loneliness and difficulties These wette days of difficulties, yet of great opportunities, he said, and we should face them as the early missionaries and their wives had done. , At the close of the meeting supper was served by the members of the Young Women’s Bible Class Union of Otago’.

About 33 delegates journeyed by special bus yesterday to visit the new Centennial Maori Memorial Church at Otakou. They were met by the Rev. T A. Pybus, who explained the history of the church and district, and the ancient Maori landmarks.
