FIVE MINOR BILLS
SWIFT PASSAGE BY HOUSE EXTENSION OF CROWN LEASES (0.C.) WELLINGTON. Oct. 8. Five minor Bills were passed by the House of Representatives to-day. They were the Reserves and Other Lauds Disposal Bill, the Native Purposes Bill, the Agricultural Emergency Regulations Confirmation Bill, the Kitchener Memorial Scholarship Trust Bill, and the Auckland Community Welfare Centre and Auckland City Empowering Bill. ' Swift passage was accorded the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill. The only clause explained bv the Acting Minister of Lands, Mr J. G. Barclay, was that extending for five years the term of all Crown leases . which would normally expire between the date of the passing of the Act and January 1, 1947, and which gives the lessees "the right to obtain renewals of their leases or new leases in substitution.
Mr Barclay said that if cases arose where it could be shown that the existing rental was excessive they could be dealt with under the ordinary provisions of the :,and Act relating to remissions of rent. That applied to pastoral licences as well as to ordinary leases. '
There was little discussion on any of Ihe other measures, except in regard to details, and all the Bills were passed by 9.25, when the House rose.
