ST. CLAIR WOMEN'S CLUB

LITERARY CIRCLE The Literary Circle of the St. Ciair Women's Club has just completed its syllabus for the year. The first two evenings were devoted to play reading, and during the season all members contributed to the following subjects: Poetry, book reviews, and originalities. Individual evenings were taken by Miss 0. Quartermain, whose paper was on " Lewis Carroll"; Mrs J. McLachlan, "Modern Authors"; and Mrs H. Archbold, "The Bronte Sisters." These papers proved interesting and instructive, and members contributed readings from the various authors' works. Part of each evening was set aside for the reading of Shakespeare's "As You Like It," under the direction of Mrs L. Withers The circle was fortunate in having present on the final evening Miss L. Jeffries, of Christchurch, whose discussion on " Books and Libraries " Droved an education to all present.
