TIMBER EXPORTS
DEMAND CONTINUES TO EXPAND VALUE TfeEBLED SINCE 1939 The export market for New Zealand sawn timber continues to expand. The value of the timber sent away—much of it from the rich timber areas of Soutlf Westland—last June was approximately three times as much as that shipped in the last peace-time June, in 1939. and more than twice as much as the value of exports in the June of 1940. For the first six months ot this year the increase over the first half of each of the two preceding years-is not so marked, but it is still substantial, and evident proof of the keen market, mostly in Australia, for New Zealand limber. Comparative figures in terms of value for the three years are:— * 1939, 1940. 1941. £ £ £ June .. .. .. 10,932 15,935 32,115 First six months 69,667 80,244 103,150 / In terms of quantity shipped in superficial feet the figures show proportionate increases, both for June and for the first six fnonths of this year, against tHe corresponding terms in 1939 and 1940.
