NEW TRADE OUTLETS
THE DOMINION LAGGING QUESTION RAISED IN HOUSE (O C) WELLINGTON, Aug. 13. A claim that if Australia could se- ' cure large orders for different types of goods from both India and Russia,. New Zealand should be able to do the: same, was made' by Mr W. J. Broadfoot (Opposition. Waitomo) in the House of Representatives to-night. He suggested that there had been delays in obtaining meat canning machinery. Mr Broadfoot asked why if Australia had secured such important orders from India, New Zealand had not been consulted and why the Dominion was not also supplying something to India? Government members: We are. Mr Broadfoot: Then why has not the Minister indicated what we are supnlying or what we are likely to supply? It would be interesting to have the figures so that we could note what we are doing alongside what Australia is doing. It had been reported that Australia had secured orders from Russia for tinned meat and that 20,000 or 30.000 tons would be involved, he added. Why could New Zealand not do something similar and help to solve her own meat problem? , He suggested that delays in getting canning machineryhad occurred.
