SHEARERS’ HOURS
INCREASE FOR COMING SEASON SHORTAGE OF SKILLED MEN (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 13. “ Shearers' hours have been in- . creased for. this season to, meet .the position arising from the shortage-or shearers,” states the annual report pf ' the ' Canterbury Sheepowners’ Union; “The rate for shearers has been increased by (5d per 100, and the wages,-: of shed hands have l?een Is 6d a week or id an; hour." The report states that: the- uniopy. reached an agreement with the New-' Zealand Workers’ Union for an in*, crease in hours from 44 a week ;tp 48 hours 20 minutes, and-also for an extension of the cut-out period shearing wet ewes from 15 to 30. -.minr*utes, when the time is requited to complete the cut-out. •, “This extension to meet wsr requirements will be much appreciated . by members,”* the report adds, “and it is hoped that it will be possible for the extension to be made to apply, throughout the whole of the war period” ■ ■ '- 1 '- v ■ "" T” ■: >v J -.
