BE FAIR TO YOUR FUR

There have been so many good buys ” in fur coats \ these last tew months that some practical advice on how to handle them may be of interest. Furs collect more dirt and grime than cloth, which in time works its way into the roots, dries up the natural oil, makes the hair brittle, and dulls the lustre To ‘keep a fur in good condition, brush it regularly, using a fairly stiff brush, but naturally not too vigorously. This gets rid of the surface dust and straightens out any fur that is twisted and matted. Furs, however you care for mem, will eventually become rubbed. Dont luck your handbag under your arm. Carry it. Wear a silk scarf to prevent bald catches on the collar caused by the fur coming into constant contact with your hair, neck, or hat. Before sitting down, lift the coat back, and it will not “ seat ” quickly. Never hang it up by the loops: this strains the skins in the back of the coat—on a hanger the weight is evenly distributed. Hang up your fur tie by the head with the fur flowing downwards. and remember always to give it a shake before putting it away. A small shower will not hurt your fur. so long as you shake out surface moisture and place the garment in a current of air to dry. Never put it near a fire or in a very hot room. Furs don't like a high temperature. It dries them up and makes the hair brittle. When dry. beat it lightly with a thin cane and brush it. following the flow of the fur. Watch out for small splits and have the damage repaired at once —to leave it will mean that more money has to be spent later.
