Social to Soldier.— The public hall was well filled on Tuesday night when a social and dance was held in honour of Private S. Heckler. The evening was taken up with dancing interspersed with items by the following:— Messrs T. Wilson, T. White, M. Ryan, A. Leckie and the Wilson family. Associated with the guest of honour (Private Heckler) on the, platform, were Private Tod (Merton) and Stoker Johnstone, who were accorded a warm welcome. On behalf of the committee Mr C. T. McCallum presented Private Heckler with a suitable gift. Mr R. Grubb (Lawn Tennis Club); and Mr R. Templeton (Golf Club) also handed over gifts on behalf of those bodies. The Mayor (Mr Andrew Fell) and the Rev. N. Benham spoke briefly, wishing Private Heckler good luck and a safe return to New Zealand. Mr C. T. McCallum acted as M.C.
