Vice-regal Their Excellencies, Sir Cyril and Lady Newall, will resume residence at Government House, Wellington, this evening after having paid official visits to Gisborne and Napier. Advice has been received by cablegram that the following members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force Overseas are safe and well: —Captain C. C. Cook, Lance-sergeant W. J. Robinson, and Privates H, M. Madigan and L, A. Henderson. Dr James Lyon will be the examiner in practical subjects for the Trinity College of Music in the South Island this year. He will begin the examination? at Hokitika during the first week in August, Dr Lyon previously visited the Dominion in 1933 and 1938. Constable J. P. Marsh, who has been 10 years! in the Detective Office at Dunedin, will leave to-day on transfer to Oamaru. He was met last night by his colleagues of both branches of the force, and presented by Inspector D. O’Neill, on their behalf, with a logbox. Chief Detective T. Holmes and Sergeant T. Johnston were among the speakers. The first woman in New Zealand to graduate as bachelor of agricultural science, Miss Elsie Gertrude Thorpe, aged 22, of Tasman, Nelson, received her degree at the graduation ceremony at Massey College. Palmerston North, yesterday. Miss Thorpe is a daughter of the Rev. J. H. Thorpe and the late Mrs Thorpe. She intends doing research work in the meat and wool industries. Passengers by the northbound plane yesterday were Mr M. Myers, Mr R. P. Hopkins and Miss E. Cobeldick for Christchurch, Mr R, W. Woods, Mr and Mrs B. Nausbaum, and Mrs E. H. Smith for Wellington. Southbound passengers in the afternoon were Mr A. N. Haggitt, Mr T. H. Brown, Mr J. M. Paterson and-Mr W. Barnes from Wellington, and Mr C. H. Archer from Auckland.
