PARTY POLITICS AND UNITY
TO THE EDITOR Sir,-The usual Socialist and Communist brands of propaganda have been employed in Parliament by Mr Denham, the Government member for Invercargill, in the forlorn hope that some people might be hoodwinked. If we do nit think Socialism and Communism, then we are traitors to our Government. That ■'seems to be Mr Denham’s reasoning. The press exposes the Socialists’ bankrupt policy, therefore it is disloyal and anti-Government. If We protest against the 40-hour week, or the Government’s mellow reaction to strikes or other, Empire-wrecking tactics, or if we even want to work longer hours as a war effort, we are branded as Fifth Columnists or as being guilty of sabotaging the war effort. The Government’s insistent parade of unity as a gesture of loyalty is simply a plea by which it, hopes to deceive those persons who do not think for themselves. It realises that men who think and behave alike are easier to govern than those who think for themselves. So unity must prevail for Socialistic results.—l am, etc., Matilda. Dunedin. June 13. ’
