SOCIALS TO SOLDIERS
Xaieri Pipe Band.—On Friday evening last the members of the Taleri Pipe Band gathered to entertain Drummer C. McLeod, who was on leave from Burnham. In the absence of the band president, Mr J. Kemp, owing to illness, Mr J. Renton, pipe-major, made a presentation of a safety razor to Drummer McLeod and wished him a speedy return. Tuapeka Mouth.—ln the Tuapeka Mouth Coronation Hall on Saturday night a social was tendered to Private R. Dickson. The president of the Patriotic Society, Mi E. W. Hayman, made the presentation to the guest of the evening and conveyed to him the best wishes of the residents of the district. Musical items were rendered by Mrs W. Cowan, Misses R. McCorkindale, E. Keenan and R. Tunnah. Aftei supper a dance was held. Naseby.—A large and representative gathering recently assembled in the Town Hall in honour of Privates Fennessy, Ball, O Donohue and Dowdle. The men were addressed by the Mayor (Mr J. L. Bremner), Mr JOpson and Mr F, Christian. On behalf of the Social Committee Mr Bremner presented each man with a safety razor, and wished him a safe return. Private Ball, on behalf of the soldiers, thanked the committee. Twenty-three local lads are now on active service.
