ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
AUXILIARY UNIT VEHICLE A USEFUL ADDITION A neat and well-equipped auxiliary ambulance has been placed at the disposal of the St. John Ambulance Association by the Sanitarium Health Food Company, which has fitted out one of its delivery vans so that it can be converted into an ambulance for use in time of emergency The van was on display outside the association’s headquarters yesterday morning'. The vehicles, of which there are now 14 in New Zealand are used for delivering foodstuffs but if an emergency should arise, they would instantly be recalled to the depot, fitted out with four or six stretchers, and be ready for immediate use in q matter of a few minutes. The stretchers, which fit neatly into the back of the van. can be quickly fitted together, and consist of steel poles with canvas strapped across them. The steel poles can be easily decontaminated in the event of gas being used. These auxiliary ambulances will be of great use to the St. John Ambulance Association, and the example set by the company is an admirable one
