OMAKAU
Rugby Football.—At Omakau on Saturday the Matakanui B Rugby football team defeated Alexandra High School by 39 points to nil. Owing to Home Guard parades all A Grade matches were cancelled. Golf. —A Sealed Hole Competition was played by members of the Omakau Golf Club on Saturday, P. Kidd, with a net score of 33. winning the trophy. Other scores were: A. Alexander 37 and R. Butcher 37. The women played a medal round, the best scores being: Miss J. Harvey 99—18—81, Miss C. Harvey 98—16 82. Mrs Ingram 111—27—84. Next Saturday the first round of the Scrymgeour Memorial Cup will be played, the following being the draw:—Women: Mrs Seddon v. Miss E, Wheeler, Miss J. Harvey v. Miss T. Alexander. Mrs Charles v. Mrs Scoular, Mrs Naylor v. Mrs Read, Mrs Butcher v. Mrs Wellington, Mrs Alpine v. Mrs Ingram. Men: J. Charles v. R. •Butcher, N. Hall v. P. Kidd, R. Seddon v. G. Naylor, C. Wellington v. J. Robertson, J. Truesdale v. H. Ingram, A. Alexander v. T. Clouston, F. Donnelly v. C. Deaker, H. Alpine v. E. Read, W. Scoular tb play the winner of the last-mentioned pair. Home Guard.—There was a good muster of members of the Omakau Home Guard on Saturday afternoon. Drill and rifle exercises were given, and the company hopes in the near future to carry out shooting practice. The Weather. —The weather has been changeable during the past week. Lighf falls of snow were recorded in most parts of the district, but did not lie long. With a heavy covering of snow on the mountains. some sharp frosts have been recorded. Obituary.—The death occurred at his residence. Omakau, recently of Mr James Henry Truesdale, at the age of 65. Born at Drybread, Mr Truesdale moved with his parents to a farm several miles from Omakau. He took over the property on the death of his father in 1910, and conducted it for over 40 years until his death. In his younger days he was a keen a’thlete, and competed at many of the sports meetings throughout the district. For several years he was a rpember of the Matakanui Brass Band, and as a 'violin player his services were in demand at dances and social functions. He was a keen supporter of the Matakanui Football Club, and was for many years a member ,of the Vincent Jockey Club. Mr Truesdale married, Miss S. A. Thomas, of Cambrian, and is survived by his widow, one son (Mr J. T. Truesdale, Omakau), and two sisters (Misses C. M. and M. E. Truesdale).
Personal.—Mr R. K. Pope, of the local Post Office staff, has returned trom relieving duty .at Poolburn, and has received notice of his transfer to Tapanm.
